Quick: When someone says, “Man, I’m having a shitty day!”, what’s your FIRST response?
Unless you were raised by wolves, the natural response is “What happened?” Or “What’s wrong?” Or “Is there anything I can do?”
But not everyone GETS it. Some people may very well have been raised by some form of wildlife.
And other people just don’t care.
I wrote a post a few weeks ago regarding my ambivalence when it comes to interacting with people. Thing is, I can tell when someone really needs a friend, and when they’re just being an attention-seeking narcissist.
And when they truly need a friend I will always be there, which is why it sucks when they aren’t capable of reciprocity.
I’m a moody broad. I’ve been referred to as ‘needy’ (which I vehemently disagree with). I guarantee that I would win any contest that involved being passively aggressive. And I guess I can be a narcissist (but I maintain that everyone is at various points in their lives).
My point?
I’m FAR from perfect and I’m well aware of it. And while I don’t necessarily expect other people to be perfect, I certainly expect them to exhibit basic common courtesy and to adhere to socially acceptable standards of behavior. And when they DON’T, I tend to shut down.
Is that unreasonable?? Am I being nitpicky? Do I demand too much?
I’m guessing you’ll say, “Yeah. You define the term “hot mess” because your life is basically a human dumpster fire.”
Well FUCK YOU TOO, ya judgemental fuck knuckle.
Just kidding 😁.
When does it become acceptable to have expectations of others? How mant hints would be enough, before you finally give up and reconcile that they just aren’t capable of compassion? When is it permissible to tell them when they’ve let you down?
When do you start to accept that no one is gonna help you, so you better help yourself?
And while I’m asking questions…
Can anyone tell me why I should bother to extinguish the dumpster fire when it’s the only thing in my life that’s consistent??
When they say it’s shitty, I tend to reply with something witty. It doesn’t always work though!
